Sump baffle is designed to ensure maximum oil availability to the oil pump. Oil surge can dramatically damage a race engine due to the car undergoing high amounts of'G' in cornering, braking and accelerating. The K20 doesn't have a great deal of oil to start with, so the baffle ensures all that is necessary is concentrated it in one area maximizing lubricant to the engines vital engine parts.
